A Message from Our Executive Director Regarding the Current Status of the Coronavirus Closings
Dear Friends of Philadelphia Futures,
I hope this note finds you safe and healthy.
Philadelphia Futures is intentionally preparing in the wake of the arrival of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Philadelphia. Given the unpredictability of the situation, we are planning for the likelihood that Philadelphia schools may close, and that Philadelphia Futures may also have to close for a period of time. Currently, Philadelphia Futures’ offices remain open and we are proceeding as usual, with the addition of distance learning for our students and staff remote technology.
As key supporters of these young people, your care and encouragement are critical. This is a challenging time for all of us, and in particular, for our students.
In the event of a closure of Philadelphia Futures’ offices, we will communicate that information via our website. Our high school classes will move to a web-based platform on Monday, college campus visits may be cancelled, and many colleges are asking students to return home. Our Coordinators and College Success Advisors continue to be vigilant in their outreach to ensure that our students feel supported during this difficult time.
During an office closure, we will move to a solely remote support model for all students and a 100% distance learning model for our high school after-school classes. All after-school clubs and other external events will be cancelled.
Be assured that the health and safety of our students and stakeholders is our first priority. We can all help to decrease the spread of the virus by practicing the standard precautions we should already be doing every day; please see this communication from the Center for Disease Control about what we can do to limit exposure: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/prevention-treatment.html
I hope that this email is for planning purposes only, but in the event that we do need to close, please know that we are doing everything we can to ensure the continuity of services for our students. Thank you for your commitment to our students and to Philadelphia Futures.
