Dear Friends of Philadelphia Futures,

Last year, we celebrated as Jasmine Billips (SAS Class of 2016) graduated from Spelman College in 2020. She is now a math teacher at Joseph Greenberg School in Philadelphia. In a country where the percentage of Black teachers is low, Jasmine knows that her students see themselves in her and encourages them to dream big. “It is my belief that mathematics is essential for one to prosper in life, and it is my hope that through teaching, the stigma surrounding math will be lessened,” she recently shared.

Resilient and determined, Jasmine entered college with purpose, the support of her family, and Philadelphia Futures’ assistance. Jasmine refers to Philadelphia Futures as the “invisible hand” that helped her navigate college successfully.

She is thankful for the college tools and support that Futures provided, including her sponsorship funds. Without that funding, Jasmine would have struggled to purchase her books and to participate in math research with professors.

We are grateful for the supporters who help alleviate the financial burdens of our students through sponsorships and opportunity funds. We need your help more than ever.

Sponsorship funds help our students afford the books and materials they need for class. The funds help students pay for meals or transportation to work or home. They are a key tool to ensure students have what they need to succeed in college. If you would like to sponsor a scholar like Jasmine, contribute to our Student Opportunity Fund, or make an unrestricted gift, please be in touch. We appreciate your generosity.

Thank you so much,

Sara Woods, President and CEO
