Celebrating the Largest Class of College Graduates in PF History!

On Tuesday, June 7th, Philadelphia Futures celebrated the high school and higher education graduations of 187 students who have participated in Philadelphia Futures’ programs. This year marked the largest class of college graduates in PF history! You can watch the Graduation Celebration, which took place at the University of the Arts Gershman Hall: The Elaine C. Levitt Auditorium at 7pm, via livestream at this link.

Here’s a look at just some of the incredible Class of 2022 college graduates. Learn more about each of the 86 scholars who have received associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees in our Graduation Program here.

Zyrah Alvi

Sponsor-A-Scholar, Class of 2018, Drexel University, Class of 2022

Zyrah Alvi is a graduate of Drexel University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Communications, as well as a certificate in Intermediate Arabic Proficiency, Global Studies and Modern Languages. Her next steps are to attend law school. Her proudest College Connection accomplishment was becoming an undergraduate researcher and having the opportunity to present her work at Harvard University, Stanford University, Drexel University, and at the United Nations NGO Committee on the Status of Women Conference. She is also proud of graduating with honors and as a top student recognized by the Department of Political Science, in addition to being awarded the Science Technology and Society (STS) prize for her creative work.


Jamir Barnes

Sponsor-A-Scholar, Class of 2018, Penn State University, Class of 2022

Jamir Barnes is a graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education. He will soon be heading to Charlotte, North Carolina to work as a Middle School English Teacher for Teach for America. His proudest College Connection accomplishment from his college years was being able to complete his student teaching practicum. This process was filled with many challenges and he is grateful to have overcome every obstacle.


Farhana Begum

Sponsor-A-Scholar, Class of 2017, Temple University, Class of 2021

Farhana Begum is a graduate of Temple University with a bachelor’s degree in Health Professions. Her next step is to attend Temple University’s School of Pharmacy. Her proudest memory as a Temple student was being an Events Coordinator for the non-profit organization United Mission Relief. She was able to help create events to fundraise and bring awareness to those in need.


Natasha Chity-Guevara

College Connection, Class of 2017, University of Pennsylvania, Class of 2022

Natasha Chity-Guevara is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in Hispanic studies. Her future plans are to obtain her master’s degree in Education at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. She also plans to start a Spanish Boarding School Teaching Residency at the Taft School. Her proudest college moment was working on education policy with the Ecuadorian Vice President and Minister of Education.


Millo Dutervil

Sponsor-A-Scholar, Class of  2018, Penn State University, Class of 2022

Millo Dutervil is a graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He will soon be moving to Dallas, Texas to start his career as a PwC management consultant. His favorite memories are all of the funny moments on the train with his Northeast High School friends to the Futures office.


Viana Stacey Zamis

College Connection, Class of  2018, Penn State University, Class of 2022

Viana Stacey Zamis is a graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation and human services. She currently works as a YouthCor after school program group leader through CORA services, at an elementary school in Northeast Philadelphia. She has been accepted to and will be attending Temple University in the Fall to pursue a Master of Social Work degree.


Toni Hartley

College Connection, Class of  2017, Temple University, Class of 2021

Toni Hartley is a graduate of Temple University with a bachelor’s degree in education. This fall, she will be starting her teaching career as a 6th grade Science Teacher at Mariana Bracetti Academy. Her proudest accomplishment was winning over $12,000 in scholarships, all because her dream in life was to become the real life Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus.


Sheril Pinnock

Sponsor-A-Scholar, Class of  2017, West Chester University, Class of 2021

Sheril Pinnock is a graduate of West Chester University with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing and an associate degree in Health Care Studies. She hopes to become a hospital nurse. Her proudest accomplishment was earning her nursing degree and passing her licensing exam in 2021, as well as earning 2 degrees in 2022 and graduating with a 4.0 GPA from West Chester University.


Saman Khan

Sponsor-A-Scholar, Class of  2018, Drexel University, Class of 2022

Saman Khan is a graduate of Drexel University with a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences. She will be applying to PA school while continuing her current job as a medical scribe at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Her favorite college memory was taking a spontaneous trip to New York with her friends after a week of brutal exams.


William Ruan

Sponsor-A-Scholar, Class of  2016, Drexel University, Class of 2020

William Ruan is a graduate of the University of the Sciences with a doctorate degree in Pharmacy. He is currently preparing to take the NAPLEX and MPJE law exams to get officially licensed as a pharmacist in PA. His favorite part of his college experience was working with his PF advisor Abby Godfrey, the best college advisor that he has ever known. She was always there for him throughout all of his college years. He is grateful for her care and guidance on his path to success.
