Philadelphia Futures Celebrates their Class of 2020 High School and Higher Education Scholars with a Virtual Graduation Ceremony

Philadelphia Futures will be honoring their Class of 2020 High School and Higher Education Graduates with a virtual graduation celebration on Wednesday, June 3rd. 

This event, which in the past has taken place at the Convention Center and the University of Pennsylvania’s Irvine Auditorium, will virtually recognize the 83 graduating high school seniors and the 64 graduating scholars earning their associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. 

One hundred percent of the Class of 2020 high school scholars were accepted into college and will be attending:

  • Duke University
  • Franklin & Marshall College

  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology

  • Rutgers University-Camden

The 64 graduating students receiving their associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees are coming from:

The virtual celebration will also include an award announcement for the higher education graduates, which will include the Changing the Story Award, Outstanding Overall Academic Achievement Award, the Marciene Mattleman Determination Award, and the Reach Higher Award, and a scholarship presentation for the high school graduates, which will include a $1,000, $4,000, $6,000, $7,000, and three $10,000 scholarships. 

Special guests will be featured throughout the video and during social media posts throughout the week including Philadelphia Eagles’ Brandon Graham and Cory Clement, Philadelphia Eagles Insider David Spadero, 6abc’s Rick Williams, PHL17’s Jennifer Lewis-Hall, NBC10 Sports’ John Clark, Governor Tom Wolf, Pennsylvania Department of Education Secretary Pedro Rivera, Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia Dr. William Hite, college presidents and staff, Philadelphia Futures board, staff and alumni, and even Gritty from the Philadelphia Flyers.  

“We are thrilled to celebrate the many accomplishments of our scholars, who are graduating from high school and college in spite of the many obstacles in their path,” Executive Director of Philadelphia Futures Sara Woods said. “Our scholars have navigated significant barriers to get to graduation, yet nothing could have prepared them for the havoc that the coronavirus has wreaked on their academic journeys.  Despite this, they are graduating and we look forward to applauding their achievements on June 3!”
