Philadelphia Futures’ Young Women Rising Career Day
Thirty-one young women in the Philadelphia Futures program traveled to Accenture, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Comcast, Deloitte, Johnson & Johnson, and J.P. Morgan for a day of networking and job shadowing.
Last year, twenty Philadelphia Futures’ Young Women Rising scholars participated in the first ever Career Day at J.P. Morgan. On Tuesday, November 6, the young women went to six different host sites, including Accenture, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Comcast, Deloitte, Johnson & Johnson, and J.P. Morgan.
Thanks to the help of staff at each one of these host sites, the scholars had the opportunity to: tour offices and job shadow; listen to panels of professional women in various careers in areas such as finance, research, and healthcare; learn how to develop a budget for their first semester of college; and practice their networking skills and elevator pitches. The scholars ended their day at a lunch, hosted by Deloitte, where they networked and learned from others about their Career Day experiences.
To prepare for Career Day, the young women scholars participated in a prep workshop, hosted by InstaMed and their employee engagement group, GROW, where they learned about proper business attire and practiced their elevator pitches and introductions.
“Through Philadelphia Futures’ career readiness strategy, we are dedicated to ensuring our young women scholars receive the critical tools and resources for college and career success,” said Philadelphia Futures’ Executive Director Sara Woods. “We are deeply grateful to Accenture, CHOP, Comcast, Deloitte, Johnson & Johnson, JP Morgan, and InstaMed for their enthusiastic participation and support.”
