PHILADELPHIAForward to the Future witha Campus-Based Model KensingtonIn alignment with its strategic goal of expanding services, Philadelphia Futures launched its first campus site inSeptember 2020 in the Kensington neighborhood.Students from Kensington High School, Kensington Creative and Performing Arts High School, and Kensington Health Sciences Academy were able to attend Philadelphia Futures programming as a cohort.This geographic shift makes it easier for students to be involvedin other clubs and activities, gives them opportunities to buildmore relationships with other students and community members, and influences general attitudes toward college attendance within their community. In addition to a successful launch of the Kensington campus, Futures also spent the year laying groundwork for a second campus location to launch inNortheast Philadelphia in September 2021, which will includestudents from Northeast High School and Lincoln High School.New Partnership with Steppingstone ScholarsIn late 2020, Futures launched a new partnership with Steppingstone Scholars, thanksto a $250,000 two-year grant from the William Penn Foundation. Together, Futures andSteppingstone will increase the number of low-income Philadelphia students who graduate from high school and enroll in college. The project activates three key interventions: enhancing the capacity and quality of middle and high school counseling departments with expert training on college and career readiness improving the transition to high school with a summer prep program for rising 9th graders expanding enrollment in dual enrollment courses, which offer college credit-bearing courses for high school studentsFutures is energized by the opportunity to join forces with Steppingstone, an organization that has been promoting economic and social mobility in Philadelphia since 1999.page 7'
